Our mission is to create Tools and Resources that Connect People to Meet Practical Needs, Foster Lasting Relationships, and Encourage Authentic Community.
Once again, Compassion Vancouver will be on the east and west side of Vancouver. Over 30 churches, businesses, and other organziations have joined together to provide FREE medical and dental services along with a meal and other valuable social services. For more information and to volunteer, check out www.compassionvancouver.com.
Last year we served over 700 families were helped with roughly 225 of those who wanted to be followed up with and helped with various services. Total donated for Compassion Vancouver was about $15,000 for both events. This amount was donated mostly by churches in each of the areas. A total of $225,000 worth of retail services was provided by the faith community, that is an amazing 1,500% increase in the investment. What a huge win for the Kindgom of God. This whole event is all about relationships. We are inviting the volunteer community to take the next step and invite a guest family over for dinner to create a deeper connectedness.
On July 2nd and 16th, 2011, we were able to work with 2 churches in the Vancouver area, Living Water and Cascade Park Baptist Church. Each church hosted a service day designed to provide vital services for automobiles owned by single moms in the area. In total over 50 families were helped. As I spoke with women receiving the service to their cars, I asked them what this meant to them. One dear woman started to cry on my shoulder as she expressed her heartfelt appreciation. Being that this was provided before the holiday season, it meant even more. If you or your church would like to host an outreach like this one, please let me know and we can help you organize the event and mobilize the church to volunteer to reach out to women in your community. As with any outreach, the focus is on the relationships formed, not simply making ourself feel good with the great service we provide. This is a perfect way to serve and form relationships with those in need in the community. Call us for more information, 360-433-5179. |
Talk to anyone that lives in a suburb in America and you'll hear the same complaint... Why can't we seem to get to know our neighbors and why can't there be a greater sense of community. I have to be honest with you, every once and a while, there was a sense of guilt that floods by body when I think about our house buying choice, wishing I would have a bought in a greater need area. But that feeling quickly dissipates when I consider the great need right where we live. Yes, they are nicer houses, but the spiritual need is still there.
